Internet Searching May Boost Brain | LiveScience

Tue, 2008-10-14 10:53 - Topics:

For middle-aged and older adults, searching the Internet could be a boost to the brain, a new study suggests.

In recent years, several studies have showed a link between pursuing activities that keep the mind engaged, such as crossword puzzles and memory games, and a lowered risk of cognitive decline later in life.

As the brain ages, a number of structural and functional changes occur, including atrophy, reductions in cell activity, and increases in deposits of amyloid plaques and tau tangles (both associated with Alzheimer's disease), all of which can affect cognitive function.

Lessons about memory from Homer Simpson

In this clip from The Simpsons, Homer explains to Marge why he does not want to take an adult education class: "Every time I watch something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain." Watching the clip, or any other, engages multiple brain regions that act in parallel to generate a coherent conscious experience.

DDR1, DDR2, DDR3: Navigating The RAM Maze

Which DDR Is Which? Here Is A Full Guide To RAM.Many computer enthusiasts know exactly what they want when they go to configure their new system. They've researched and picked out a perfectly matching CPU, motherboard and videocard combination that will meet all their needs. However, when it comes to RAM many users become totally befuddled. They generally know how much RAM they need (1GB is the effective operating minimum these days, 2GB if running Vista or using hungry apps like Photoshop), but they don't have a clue as to what DDR1, DDR2 or DDR3 means.

Hi there, first off let me say I'm sorry I wasnt sure which forum to post this in.

Recently I installed Adobe After Effects 7 on my new Vista machine. It seems to run just fine until I attempt to import a file to the program.
It then brings up an error saying "After Effects: Out of memory. (1k requested) (23 :: 40)"
I have 2GB of DDR2 Ram, when Im running After Effects my pc says there is about 1.6GB of RAM free.

Any ideas why this might not be working?
Any help would be brillant

Upgrade from 1GB to 2GB DDR2 667

Got a question to ask. My vista score 4.5 on memory with 2* 512 ddr2 ram. Today i just bought 2*1GB DDR2 ram 667 and it seems that after update my score it still at 4.5 on memory. Why? Btw, my notebook is using 950GMA.
The big question is why 2GB VS 1GB i still got the same score? Even update twice also same. Both only 4.5 leh..Anyone care to explain why?
Also done deleting all the file in Data Store. After running perfomace assement again, it still gave me 4.5 on my memory. Same stuff. Wonder why.. The only different upgrading from 1Gb to 2Gb in Vista Performance Index is Graphic section. Previouly when running on 1GB it score 3.2 and after upgrading to 2GB it now shows 3.3. A mere + 0.1 on graphic? Maybe this is because it's shared ram in GMA 950.

Best Vista version for gaming purposes

I had a look at m$ website and saw that Basic requires only 512mb of memory, whereas Premium will require 1024mb of memory. Is it the AERO system that makes you need that much of memory? If it is, I suppose you can turn it off, and if its turned off, does it make the requirements to the level of Basic's 512 megabytes?

Im looking forward for the new version of Movie Maker, but the system requirements doesn't please me as I will use the PC for gaming purposes mostly.

Then the 32bit vs 64bit, as 32-bit software only allows me to use 2gb of dualchannel memory I can't get 64-bit because of its driver problems.
