She tried, but she stumbled. Singer Macy Gray was the first female celebrity to walk away from season nine of "Dancing with the Stars." Actor Ashley Hamilton and partner Edyta Sliwinska were also eliminated on Wednesday's results show. Macy Gray and Ashley Hamilton, along with NFL star Michael Irvin, had the lowest judges' scores after their performances on Monday and Tuesday.
To determine who was going home, viewers' votes were added to the judges' scores. The male and female celebrity with the lowest combined scores were forced to leave the show.
"It's been cool. I learned a little bit about dancing. Ballroom isn't my calling," Macy Gray said.
"I'm so proud of her," Macy Gray's dancing partner Jonathan Roberts.
"It's been a blast, and I had a great partner... I'm still just grateful to even get on the show," Ashley Hamilton, son of George Hamilton, said.
"I wish we could stay a little longer... he had a lot more to offer," Edyta Sliwinska said.

The female celebrities declared safe were swimmer Natalie Coughlin with partner Alec Mazo, singer Mya with partner Dmitry Chaplin, actress Melissa Joan Hart with partner Mark Ballas, model Joanna Krupa with Derek Hough, actress Debi Mazar with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, singer Kelly Osbourne with Louis Van Amstel and model Kathy Ireland with partner Tony Dovolani.
The men continuing on the show are snowboarder Louie Vito and partner Chelsie Hightower, singer Aaron Carter and partner Karina Smirnoff, "Iron Chef America" chairman Mark Decascos and partner Lacey Schwimmer, Ultimate Fighter Chuck Liddell and partner Anna Trebunskaya, singer Donny Osmond and partner Kym Johnson, politician Tom DeLay with partner Cheryl Burke and NFL star Michael Irvin and partner Anna Demidova.
At the beginning of the show, Kelly Osbourne and partner Louis Van Amstel were selected to perform their Viennese Waltz. A performance from the Broadway production of "The Lion King" was also shown.
Professional dancers paired off to perform to the soundtrack of "Dirty Dancing" while photos of Patrick Swayze were shown on monitors. The tribute ended with a recreation of the final scene in the film where Swayze's character, Johnny Castle, and Jennifer Grey's character, Baby, danced the last dance of the season. The audience gave the performers a tearful standing ovation.
After Monday and Tuesday's performances, the celebrities with the lowest judges' scores were Macy Gray, Ashley Hamilton and Michael Irvin with 19 points each. Kathy Ireland and Tom Delay had 20 points each.
For the women, model Joanna Krupa was the point leader with 34 points. Close behind with 31 points were rock princess Kelly Osbourne and singer Mya. Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin had 27 points; actress Melissa Joan Hart had 24 and actress Debi Mazar had 22.
For the men, singer Aaron Carter was in first with 32 points. Singer Donny Osmond was in second with 30 points. "Iron Chef America" Chairman Mark Decascos had 29. Olympic snowboarder Louie Vito earned 27. Ultimate Fighting Champion Chuck Liddell received 22.
The highest possible judges' score a contestant could have received was 40 points. Scores are higher this season because of the "relay" dances. Celebrities were split into four groups of four and competed against the other contestants in their group. Judges ranked each celebrity first through fourth and awarded an extra 10 points for first, 8 points for second, 6 points for third and 4 points for fourth. Relay points were added to each celebrity's individual dance score. Each celebrity was awarded up to 30 points for his or her individual dance.
