Getting Started With Vista...

Hello. I will be receiving a new computer with Vista Home Premium (32 bit) in a few days. I would like some ‘getting started with Vista’ tips; mainly what blunders to avoid when setting up the computer and Vista. I see that some people have had initial difficulties, but for most, things have gone smoothly. I have selected all new hardware (bought as a package from HP), in the hopes of giving myself the best Vista platform. Here are some details about my new system:
• HP Pavilion d4890y desktop
• Intel Core 2 Duo processor E6420 (2.13GHz)
• 2GB DDR2-667MHz dual channel SDRAM (2x1024)

Blue Screen error on HP Pavilion dv6137tx (WebCamera Driver problems!)

Fri, 2007-04-27 14:11 - Topics:

Hi

I have a HP Pavilion dv6137tx (dv6000t series) notebook computer running Windows XP Home Premium Edition (clean install over Windows XP Media Center Edition). By default, the integrated web camera is not recognized by Windows Vista so I have to install the firmware update for the camera, after which it does work in Vista but when I restart the computer, I get a blue screen error for the following file:

r5u870flx.sys

The only way out of this is to start Safe Mode with Command Prompt and rename the two files r5u870flx86.sys and r5u870fux86.sys in c:\windows\system32\drivers\ to r5u870flx86.sys.old and r5u870fux86.sys.old. The system then boots normally.

Upgrade problems to Ultimate

Hi All,

I am a new member of the forum. I recently purchased a HP Pavilion dv9000t with Vista home premium. I decided to do the update to Ultimate edition. Well I validate the key and download the updater. It gets all the way through the install and on the initial launch after the completed update it bombs out with a blue screen of death that prompts an error but the screen does not stay up long enough for me to see the exact error. The laptop is then stuck in a boot loop but never reaches the desktop. I tried running it in safe mode and still no success. I am forced to roll back to the version I am currently running.
