A new deal between IBM and IBEC, a BPL provider, will bring BPL coverage to 340,000 rural homes, many of which currently have no access to cable or DSL broadband.

Rural Internet users left out of the loop by mainsteam Internet solutions like cable and DSL may soon have a new option thanks to a deal IBM has hammered out to begin providing broadband over power lines. On Wednesday, the company announced it had signed a $9.6 million deal with IBEC, a broadband-over-power-line (BPL) provider, to begin equipping several rural test markets with BPL technology.

With low-end broadband packages hitting price points that make them commodities, ISPs are starting to rely on high-bandwidth premium services to draw in high profits from their subscribers. Because the US broadband market effectively functions as a competition between regional cable providers and telcos, that competition has largely pitted DSL against cable. But the deployment of newer technology is shifting the fight to one between fiber to the home and the new, high-bandwidth DOCSIS 3.0 cable hardware.

I am new to the forum and to vista
I have 2 computers in the house with vista and they won't connect to a secure site like hotmail ect
I am on dsl with telus and the same computers when on cable internet have no problems.???

ok i have a Gateway MX6425 laptop with a conexant systems AC97 Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP i believe for my sound card, not 100% sure though, if all it is a modem then screw it dont need it I use dsl, but i need sound badly my laptop is mostly used for buisness and travel... i need vista 32 bit drivers for the final released version...

Running Linux Inside of Windows With QEMU

For Linux users who are stuck on Windows at work all day, it's easy to run a copy of Damn Small Linux in a window inside of Windows XP.

1. Go to the Damn Small Linux download page
2. Download the current version of dsl-embedded (the current version is Damn Small Linux 3.1 and the file is called dsl-3.1-embedded.zip)
3. Unzip the downloaded file
4. Double-click on the file called dsl-windows.bat

Damn Small Linux will then be running in a window on your Windows XP computer. It's really that easy. Check it out:
