the 'in place' install...

hey, i just [FINALLY] got my express upgrade Vista Premium, and im wanting to keep my files when i install Vista, therefore, from what i have found out...the 'in place' is what i should do.

however i have also read in a few places that they don't like this method, if you have done it or just know a lot about computers, and think it is bad to do, or good,

can you let me know, aswell as anything else i should do before, during and after the install

for example i have read that i should put the CD-key in after installing it for certain reasons, so can you let me know about the 'in place' install, and again, about any tips etc..

1st of all hi i am new..second i did some searching and found some answere but i want to make sure before i buy vista.

1. i went to best buy earlier and i ask the tech guy about the upgrade that allows you install full CD. He said its not true.
so if i buy the upgrade i can make a complete install, if i completely wipe out the HD before installing Upgrade Vista?

2. What happens to my XP Sp2 key does it expire if i install vista and it recognizes my xp key or i can use it on another pc?

3. Should i just buy Ultimate Vista instead of upgrade?

4. If i ever upgrade the mobo and cpu i could still use the same key or i need to purchase another one?

upgrade version or full version?

So I hear people say that if you use the upgrade version to go to vista then you lose your cd key for XP, for one thing what exactly is the negative for this. If you have vista why do you need xp. Also I have an HP computer and it never came with an XP disc, everything I need for a system recovery is on a second harddrive that came with my computer, So the loss of a cd key wouldn't really affect me anyway would it. Also my computer isn't that old and it doesnt have that much of my stuff on it, so it wouldn't be a total loss if I needed to completely erase everything from my hard drive in order to install vista.
