Why wouldnt my hard drive not be recognized during POST. It is recognized in BIOS.
The drive is sata and will only boot at POST only when a Windows Vista or XP install disk is in the cd drive.

Right, Ive got a nasty problem with my CD/DVD drive/s.As you can see in the attachment, the drive labelled."VOBID Instant Drive CD SCSI CdRom Device" is malfunctioning. Now I believe that is related to the Pinnacle Studios Instant CD/DVD SE...
anyone know a registry tweak to add "close" to the right click menu of a cd drive in vista?too much work to lean over one foot and close it... :D
I have just bought a Lenovo PC which came without any documentation. Although I was initially able to install software via the DVD-ROM and also play music CDs, I now find that Windows doesn't appear to recognize it. When I tried to copy files from a CD-RW disk I was presented with a list of four drives and the instruction to insert a disk (I already had a disk in the drive). Have I done something to the settings as I tried to set up the new computer?
It wont recognize any DVD media (blank or with data on). The drive came with the PC (i bought it from PC world) so everything is factory built.

When I insert a disk in drive (MATSHITA UJ- 840D ATA), the light turns yellow like it's starting. I can hear the disk spin; then it just stops, and the light goes out. The drive won't play, read, or even recognize a disk in the drive. I checked...
Ok, I've got way better things to work on than this but I'm sure there's got to be an easy registry edit.....I just can't get it off my mind..... :)On my computer I have two cd rom drives. When no cd's are inserted they have the label "DVD RW...

I have an ASUS P5B with a JMicron RAID and IDE controller. There is only one IDE port so i have my LG DVD+-R/RW as master, and my OEM (Manufactured by Sony) CD-R/RW as slave. The DVD drive runs great, but vista cannot start the CD drive. Vista can see it, just not use it. Has anyone else run into this problem before or have any ideas on how to fix it? JMicron has already provided an updated Vista driver.
Thanks
