Formatting

Just installed Home Premium. One concern is the formatting. It asks for the partition to install on and I select "C", which has an existing copy of XP. I select Delete to delete the partition and then select Format. It instantly moved to installing Vista Home Premium.

No option to quick format, however the format took no more than a blink and the installation started.

I figured I did something wrong, so I went through it again.....same thing. What kind of format is it doing? Do we need a third party format program. or should we keep a copy of XP handy to do a real f
