Vista and Audacity compatibility problems

Hello,I recently bought a computer with Windows Vista, and now Audacity doesn't seem to be able to record streaming audio--all I see is a flat line. (It worked fine when I had XP) I've tried the new Beta version of Audacity 1.3, as well as 1.2.6...

Dose anyone know of a way to autohide the sidebar? I think you could do it in the beta version. But I can do in now..
Did Microsoft remove this feature?
I know I can just exit the sidebar and then reload it but I would like just hide it so a mouse over will make it reapear.

Upgrading new machine's Basic to Premium

I bought a new machine over the weekend with Vista Basic. I was a Vista beta tester and I should be getting a copy of Premium in the mail shortly, so I opted out of the upgrade at the store. When my Premium arrives, can I just throw it in and have it upgrade over Basic, or do I need to purchase the "anytime upgrade" CD to do this?

I never really had much of a chance to do much with the Beta version, so I'm sure that once I'm up and running with this new machine, I'll be 'round here a bunch, so thanks in advance.

Vista has been a nightmare

Wed, 2007-02-07 13:50 - Topics:

So last night I undertook the task of installing Vista (Ultimate Full version) on my computer. The first observation was that when I put in the DVD, the auto-run program on the DVD created an error on the Windows XP that was running (not a good omen). So I decided I should boot from the DVD which worked. The second observation was that the install was not as fast as some would have you believe. It took about 45 minutes whereas my XP installs used to take about 30 minutes.

The third observation was that it did not recognize my sound card whereas the beta version did. Maybe Microsoft changed their minds about supporting that card since the Beta. Once installed the interface looks absolutely stunning. The first thing I did was to update Vista with the latest patches from Microsoft. Then I installed Flash and Itunes. With every install the nagging warnings were very irritating (to be fair I’m sure there is a hidden setting somewhere to turn this off). Then the 3rd software I proceeded to install was a software called Alcohol 120% which is a CD burning software like EZ CD creator and Nero. Note that Alcohol worked fine in XP. During the install I got the blue screen of death. The computer rebooted and once the desktop came back up again it once again went to the blue screen of death. It rebooted again and this time I went into safe mode. Once again the blue screen of death. After several more attempts I knew I had to reformat the computer again and reinstall.

Poor Graphic Performance

Sat, 2007-02-03 14:25 - Topics:

I have an ATI Radeon pro x700 series video card installed with 256 mb video memory. While I was trying out the beta version of Vista, my system rating was always pretty good, scoring over 4.0 in the graphics section. Well since installing the retail version, the graphics section is scoring a 1.0 for desktop performance and graphics. I did install the latest ATI drivers but it still didn't make a difference. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with this particular card. Is it a hardware problem or a driver problem. Any help would be great.
