Deleting "Boot" and "bootmgr"

Apologies in advance for the lengthy post.

I started out with one partition, c:, with XP Pro SP2. Then I created a new partition, onto which I installed Vista Ultimate. This installed the bootloader onto the active partition (c:). I also wanted to install linux, so I created an extended partition with two logical partitions on it, one for root and one for the swap file, onto which I installed Ubuntu 6.10. This installed Grub into the MBR. So I had Grub loading either Ubuntu or the Windows Vista bootloader, which in turn loaded XP or Vista.

I was not happy with this arrangement, so I deleted the partitions onto which Ubuntu and Vista had been installed, created a small partition at the beginning of the drive (before the XP partition), and followed the instructions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=260772, which worked beautifully.

Is this another feature of Vista!!

I would like to know whether this is really a feature of vista----

After dual boot installing windows vista, my primary and active partition which has windows xp was assigned drive
letter C: by default.. But when i boot into vista, the vista partition becomes C: and the xp partition some other
drive letter...

So has anyone else got the same situation?

Move Vista Boot Manager to other partition

Hi

I have a little problem.

I have a partition "D:" with 2GB free, and I have the C: partition where I installed Windows Vista.

The problem that I have is that the partition D: is the active partition where Windows Vista Boot Manager is installed, and I want to erase D: and only boot from the c: Drive. Turing c: to my active partition.

How do I remove the Vista Boot Manager from the D: partition and re-install it to the C: drive, on the same partition where Vista is installed.

also, Is there any tool that can make it easier ?
