installing x64 over x86

I am very glad to have found this forum and do hope it helps me with Vista.

I installed Vista 32 Ultimate and will now be upgrading that machine with a new CPU (Core 2 Duo) - with the hardware upgrade I'd like to move to Vista 64 Ultimate but have been unable to find any information on if it is possible to install x64 Vista from Vista 32 so as to save my settings.
*I did check and have downloaded all my hardware 64bit signed drivers so that should make the move a bit less painful.

Another question I have is will XP 64bit drivers work with Vista 64bit?

32bit or 64bit??

Hey all...

I bought the retail Ultimate Vista w/ the 32bit and 64bit versions. I actually installed the 64bit program first it was very quick, I liked the speed, but what I was getting paranoid about is the support for 64bit applications.

All my hardware currently has a version of the 64bit drivers, although I see they need a little refinement.

So after very LITTLE thought I went back to 32bit OS. I can notice the quickness is not up to par with the 64bit as one would expect, but the drivers and such seem to be about the same for the 32bit as the 64bit.

I am now wanting to go back to 64bit, but I would like some people's opinions about the increased support for 64bit apps. Mainly the smaller programs. Will most software work in 64bit? Im talking about small apps like file renamers, video players such as VLN, PowerDVD, etc...

Realtek Sound Drivers

i have the Abit NF8 mobo which has the Realtek sound card onboard. i went to Abit and they dont have the Vista drivers, they only have up to windows xp and even xp 64bit drivers but no vista. I went to the Realtek website and they have the "vista realtek drivers" (both 32bit n 64bit) but wen i try to install i end up getting an error. it'll say "installing driver software" or something along those lines, a few secs later it sais there was an error triying to install "realtek sound device".

last night i was able to install some sound driver, but it promped with with one of those "its not the proper drivers, blah blah" i went ahead in installed anyways and it worked fine, but wen i rebooted, i got an error and had to insert the windows cd in and go through the repair thing.
