Hey all...

I bought the retail Ultimate Vista w/ the 32bit and 64bit versions. I actually installed the 64bit program first it was very quick, I liked the speed, but what I was getting paranoid about is the support for 64bit applications.

All my hardware currently has a version of the 64bit drivers, although I see they need a little refinement.

So after very LITTLE thought I went back to 32bit OS. I can notice the quickness is not up to par with the 64bit as one would expect, but the drivers and such seem to be about the same for the 32bit as the 64bit.

I am now wanting to go back to 64bit, but I would like some people's opinions about the increased support for 64bit apps. Mainly the smaller programs. Will most software work in 64bit? Im talking about small apps like file renamers, video players such as VLN, PowerDVD, etc...

I was under the impression that 64bit Vista would be faster, but now I'm hearing that all you get with 64bit is better security?

My main point for looking at the 64bit version was for a performance boost, because I have a dual core 64bit processor.

So if 64bit doesn't give me a performance boost and is only for security, I guess all I need to do go with 32bit then?

OK, did a clean install of Ultimate 64bit. I can't load my Sonic or Roxio software because it's not 64bit compatable. I've played briefly with the builtin Windows DVD burner, but I cant find any option to copy a DVD. I did a Goolle for free DVD burning software and came up with several hits.
Any suggestions?
Will Windows DVD software copy?
Does anyone have a recomendation for free software?

I had a look at m$ website and saw that Basic requires only 512mb of memory, whereas Premium will require 1024mb of memory. Is it the AERO system that makes you need that much of memory? If it is, I suppose you can turn it off, and if its turned off, does it make the requirements to the level of Basic's 512 megabytes?

Im looking forward for the new version of Movie Maker, but the system requirements doesn't please me as I will use the PC for gaming purposes mostly.

Then the 32bit vs 64bit, as 32-bit software only allows me to use 2gb of dualchannel memory I can't get 64-bit because of its driver problems.

Ok I am lost. I want to get vista, but heres the thing, I want that animated background extra that only comes with Vista ultimate(otherwise i'd go for home premium), but If I get vista ultimate, theres no way I'm buying the retail for that much money. So then I'd be getting the OEM, and then I'd be stuck with either 32bit or 64bit.

Now If I get 32bit, I might regret it later because I have a 64bit dual core cpu now, and I don't want to miss out on the performance enhancements the future will bring, so then I'd have to pay for another copy, and then i might as well have bought ultimate retail for even less. but then if I choose the 64bit version, I've heard that its slower right now and it might give me problems, so then I'd end up having to buy the 32bit version for the now, and end up paying more than ultimate retail again.
